Gwoza Data Deletion Policy

1. Your Right to Deletion

Under the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) and applicable data protection laws, you have the right to request the deletion of your personal data held by Gwoza Data. This right is also known as “the right to be forgotten.”

You may request deletion of your data when:

  • Your personal data is no longer necessary for the purposes for which it was collected
  • You withdraw your consent for data processing
  • You object to the processing of your data
  • Your data has been unlawfully processed
  • There is a legal obligation to erase your data
  • You wish to permanently close your Gwoza Data account

2. How to Request Data Deletion

To request deletion of your personal data, please follow these steps:

  1. Send a Formal Request: Email your deletion request to info@gwozadata.com with the subject line “Data Deletion Request”.
  2. Include Required Information: In your email, provide:
    • Your full name as registered on Gwoza Data
    • Your registered phone number
    • Your registered email address
    • A clear statement requesting data deletion
    • Reason for deletion request (optional)
  3. Identity Verification: We may require additional verification to ensure the request is legitimate and comes from the account owner.

3. What We Delete

Upon receiving and verifying your deletion request, we will permanently delete or anonymize the following data:

  • Account Information: Full name, phone number, email address
  • Profile Data: Any additional profile information you provided
  • Transaction History: Records of airtime purchases, data bundles, bill payments
  • Communication Data: Customer support emails

4. Data We May Retain

In certain circumstances, we may be legally required to retain some of your data for specific periods. This includes:

  • Financial Records: Transaction data required for accounting, tax, and regulatory compliance (retained for 7 years as per Nigerian law)
  • Legal Obligations: Data required for legal proceedings, investigations, or regulatory requirements
  • Fraud Prevention: Information related to fraudulent activities, which may be retained to prevent future fraud
  • Network Security: Logs and security data necessary for maintaining system integrity and investigating security incidents

5. Processing Time

We aim to process all deletion requests within 10 days of receipt. Complex requests or those involving large amounts of data may take up to 15 days.

You will receive:

  • Confirmation of receipt within 48 hours
  • Regular updates on the progress of your request
  • Final confirmation once deletion is complete

6. Account Deletion

Account Deletion (Permanent)

Requires email request: Permanent deletion removes your data from our systems. This action is irreversible.

7. Impact of Data Deletion

Before requesting deletion, please understand that:

  • You will lose access to your transaction history and receipts
  • Any pending transactions or unresolved issues will be addressed before deletion
  • You will need to create a new account if you wish to use Gwoza Data services again
  • Any referral bonuses or loyalty points will be forfeited
  • You will be removed from our marketing communications

8. Children’s Data

Gwoza Data does not knowingly collect data from users under 18 years of age. If we discover that we hold data from a minor, we will immediately delete it without requiring a formal request. Parents or guardians can request deletion of a minor’s data by providing proof of guardianship.
